Knox Grammar

Boarding House & Commons

Project Details

Knox boarding facilities were aged and not appropriate for the future of the school. The existing facilities were out of date and spread within multiple buildings and over two campus’. The school was seeking a state of the art facility that would house all boarders on one campus.

The new boarding house consists of 5 storeys at the northern end of the senior campus. It contains student breakout spaces for both entertainment and light meals. It also accommodated 3 house masters residences, clinic and laundry facilities.

Challenges with this project were operating a full construction site within a school. Managing Construction activity safely both within and outside of the construction zone, with students, teachers and the public within close proximity. Managing noise from a construction site to minimise disruption to day to day school activities and especially key school events.

These challenges were minimised through good regular client based and project control group meetings. Programming of specific works outside key event dates and through term vacation periods within the school calendar.
